Seborrheic Dermatitis Diagnosis & Treatment

Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin rash that causes scaly patches and red skin on the scalp of both children and adults.

In infants, when it appears on the scalp it is also called "cradle cap". When present on the scalp of adults, it is typically referred to as dandruff. Seborrheic dermatitis can also appear on the face, chest, and axillae (underarms).

This rash is typically itchy, flaky, and red. The mildest cases can sometimes be controlled with OTC shampoos, but many cases require prescription shampoos or topical medications.

It is common for this condition to affect self-esteem in both children and adults, which is why treatment is helpful.
