Lipoma Diagnosis & Removal

A lipoma is a fatty tumor located just beneath the skin. Many patients prefer to have lipomas removed, especially if located in a visible area.

Lipomas typically feel soft, slightly mobile, and can grow slowly, sometimes becoming tender. Lipomas are generally considered harmless, but significant growth can make patients uncomfortable.

Examination by your dermatologist can help narrow the diagnosis, but a formal diagnosis is not possible until the lipoma has been removed and/or biopsied.

After a suspected diagnosis, removal is done during an appointment in our office through a simple surgical incision, which generally requires a few stitches.
