Melasma Diagnosis & Treatment

Melasma, commonly called the “Mask of Pregnancy,” is a skin rash that causes pigmentation deposits on the face.

Melasma is more common in women and is typically associated with fluctuating hormone levels (from birth control pills or pregnancy), sun exposure, and/or genetics.

It is important for your Dermatology Consultants of Frisco dermatologist to diagnose your condition and provide the necessary balance of sun avoidance and treatments to help manage this condition. Melasma is VERY sun-sensitive -- sun exposure keeps this rash dark and can overpower or sabotage most treatments.

In addition to avoiding sun exposure, treatments include sunblock, topical prescription pigment-reducing creams, chemical peels, and Fraxel Laser therapy.
