Most cysts are harmless, but can grow and become tender or infected (draining intermittently). Due to these issues, many patients prefer to have their cysts removed.

Cysts, also called epidermoid cysts, are small sacs of fluid attached to the base of the skin and are generally located just beneath the skin.

Examination by your dermatologist can help narrow the diagnosis, but a formal diagnosis is not possible until the cyst has been removed and/or biopsied.

After a suspected diagnosis, removal is done during an appointment in our office through a simple surgical incision, which generally requires a few stitches.
