Lichen Planus Diagnosis & Treatment

Lichen planus is an inflammatory, autoimmune condition of the skin and mucous membranes.

Lichen planus typically appears on the skin, near the wrists and ankles, and usually consists of purplish, itchy flat-topped papules/bumps. When presenting on the mucous membranes (such as in your mouth), it forms lacy white patches, sometimes with painful sores.

In rare situations, lichen planus can be associated with hepatitis C, an infection of your liver. Most physicians don’t know this, but at Dermatology Consultants of Frisco, our skilled dermatologists are skin experts and can help make sure your condition is addressed correctly.

Treatment typically starts with topical prescription medications, but can often require stronger medications (taken by mouth or injection) to fully heal.
